The Brazilians were denied a training facility on Thursday, but were given a venue and able to train for the first time in Egypt on Friday night.

“The training session went really well,” Mabunda tells KickOff.com. “After refusing a venue the first day, we managed to secure a training pitch, and the session was really fruitful and helped a lot.”

‘Sugar’ says the side are raring to go against Zamalek, but are aware of the threat the Egyptians pose.

“We are very hyped up – there’s lots of energy in the camp,” he says. “It’s difficult at times to manage such emotions, but we have a strong technical team and management that helps us remember – as much as we want to celebrate – that we have to finish off the job first.

“We are just focused on what we have to do, in order to continue where we left off, and also be cautious of their strengths and what they are capable of doing. We must be able to exploit their weaknesses and get the required goals. But we are ready for the game.”

Mabunda hopes South Africa will be united this evening as Masandwana look to make the country proud.

“We are in a position to make history,” he says. “It’s a good thing for us as Mamelodi Sundowns, us as the players, us as South Africans and for the country as a whole. I believe we will make South Africa proud.”

Kick-off at El Borg Arab Stadium is set for 20:30.
