James Okwuosa targets Chippa United silverware

Posted: 17 October 2016 Time: 17:28

Chippa United skipper James Okwuosa reckons their encouraging showing in the MTN8 has given them enough reason to believe that they can start pushing for silverware.

So unfortunate were the Chilli Boys in the MTN8 that they came undone in the semi-finals against Mamelodi Sundowns due to a solitary strike from Anthony Laffor in the second leg.

This week marks the start of yet another cup competition – the Telkom Knockout – for which they will be travelling all the way to Makhulong Stadium for a date with Highlands Park on Friday evening.

"What happened in the MTN8 is that we lost a bit of concentration and we believe that we will not make the same mistake again. We just want to rectify our mistakes in the Telkom," Okwuosa tells KickOff.com.

"We always give ourselves the highest limit of chances for the cup, with the primary target being to reach the final. This season we have promised ourselves that we want to reach each and every final.

"So far we haven't done badly because we were in the semi-finals of the MTN8. Actually that showing in the MTN8 has given us the belief that this can be done."

The Nigerian defender says they will not dare undermine The Lions of the North despite the fact that they are only in their first season in the top flight.

"They have a lot of experienced players and you cannot call them a first division team anymore because they are now in the PSL," he adds.

"They have won a game already and that means you cannot underestimate them. We will be expecting an entertaining match with quality football on display on the day.

"We have to build on from what we did in the MTN8 by correcting all the mistakes," concludes Okwuosa.

Kick-off of the clash in Tembisa is scheduled for 20h00, with tickets available at Ticketpros.
