Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has congratulated his players after they were nominated for the CAF Player of the Year awards.

CAF have short-listed the players vying for the awards, which include Sundowns stars Dennis Onyango, Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly, Yannick Zakri and Hlompho Kekane. Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has also been nominated.

"I think it's good for our players to be nominated," Mosimane said. "You have to reach the final to be nominated. You saw with [Orlando Pirates players] Senzo [Meyiwa] and [Kermit] Erasmus. You have to be in the final and try to win it to be nominated.

Mosimane had praise for new signing Zakri, who has played much of this year’s Champions League competition for former side ASEC Mimosas.

“Zakri did exceptionally well. Against Al Ahly, he destroyed them."
