Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp has revealed that Andrea Fileccia was unconvincing upon his return to training and requires another three or four weeks to recapture his sharpness.
Fileccia started training on Monday and didn’t look comfortable with Middendorp admitting the Belgian striker is nowhere close to full fitness as he looks to recover from a knee injury.
The 24-year-old suffered the setback in February against Bloemfontein Celtic whilst still turning out for Free State Stars and his knee is yet to fully respond since Maritzburg recruited him in the off-season.
The Team of Choice, who have scored only one goal in their opening five league games, will be facing Fileccia's former club this weekend although their is no chance he will face his ex-employers.
"He started on Monday and he’s out of form and there’s no chance [for him to play this weekend]. At the moment he’s definitely in need of another three to four weeks,’’ Middendorp tells KickOff.com.
"He started training on Monday and he’s going a different route at the moment, regarding treatment and regarding whatever - but at the moment he can’t play.
"I was thinking going [into the international break] he was looking good from the therapy but it's definitely not possible for him to play. He’s not fit for training and he’s out for another treatment and that’s it."
Fileccia, who scored six goals in eleven appearances for Free State Stars last season, has started one game and been substituted once in Maritzburg's opening two matches against Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns.
