Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has condemned fans who booed striker Thamsanqa Gabuza in their international friendly against Ghana.
Bafana managed to come from behind and salvage a 1-1 draw against The Black Stars, who dominated for most of the match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday evening.
However, Gabuza was subjected to boos from a large section of the crowd when he came on as a substitute for Sibusiso Vilakazi in the 71st minute.
The Orlando Pirates frontman had a glorious opportunity to silence them late on but instead ballooned his shot wide of the target from close range.
"You know, some of the things become habits to some people. Just because they boo you today, they’ve got to boo you everytime,’’ Mashaba said at the post-match press conference.
"There isn’t much that we can do but I always cross my fingers that the player comes on and deliver as expected. If you have to score a goal, score.
"He had a chance to do that and if he had scored that one, some of his critics would have been made to eat humble pie.
"But we as tacticians of football, we understand what is actually happening. With time, one day, it will work for him. Unfortunately time waits for no man."
The 29-year-old last scored in Bafana's 4-0 win over Gambia in June, while he missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw against Mauritania in September.
