SuperSport United's Michael Boxall tastes defeat with New Zealand against Mexico

Posted: 10 October 2016 Time: 09:43

SuperSport United defender Michael Boxall played a full 90 minutes for New Zealand on the weekend as they went down 2-1 to Mexico in a friendly in Nashville, Tennessee.

Giovani dos Santos returned to international action for Mexico and converted a penalty to open the scoring in the 29th minute.

Marco Rojas pulled New Zealand level a minute into the second half, but Marco Fabian grabbed a winner in the 56th minutes for Mexico - who had beaten New Zealand 9-3 on aggregate in their 2014 World Cup qualifying playoff.

New Zealand, who won their fifth Oceania Nations Cup in June to qualify for the Confederations Cup in Russia next year, came into the match unbeaten in their seven prior internationals.

Boxall played at right-back and is likely to see action again when the All Whites meet the USA in Washington on Tuesday night (Wednesday SA time).
