Premier League stars help Nigeria beat Zambia in World Cup qualifying

Posted: 9 October 2016 Time: 17:40

Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored first-half goals as Nigeria secured a 2-1 victory over Zambia in African World Cup qualifying.

The Arsenal and Manchester City stars netted in the 33rd and 43rd minutes for the Super Eagles at the Levy Mwanawasa in Ndola.

Highlands Park striker Collins Mbesuma pulled a goal back for Chipolopolo in the 71st minute but it was not enough to spark a comeback as Zambia dropped points at home.

It is a fantastic start to World Cup qualification for Nigeria in the ‘group of death’ that also contains Cameroon and Algeria.

In Group E, Mohamed Salah cancelled out Fode Dore's opener, before Al Ahly's Abdalla El Said's second-half strike secured a come-from-behind 2-1 win for Egypt over Congo, as they began their qualification campaign with maximum points.
