Thobani Mncwango: Bafana aware of the stakes for World Cup qualifier with Burkina Faso

Posted: 8 October 2016 Time: 12:04

Thobani Mncwango says Bafana Bafana are well aware they are under pressure to perform in the World Cup qualifiers.

South Africa will open their campaign against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou tonight (kick-off 20h00 SA time).

Shakes Mashaba's charges are eager to impress after failing to book a ticket to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, only winning once in six qualifiers.

"I think the pressure is everywhere and all the players know perfectly well we are under it," Mncwango tells KickOff.com.

"But it is up to us to change that. In South Africa we got the skill and everything but what is missing is we fail to do it when it matters most, like we do at our clubs.

"I think by doing so, I feel everything will go well for us and we also need to be in tandem and get behind each other. That is what is needed and also the fighting spirit.

"We must take into account that we are not fighting for our own, but we are fighting for our fans and families. I feel if we can put that in front of us, I think we can do much better and put in extra effort. The rest will fall into place."

Mncwango is on the bench for this evening's clash, but feels international game-time is on the way.

"The only thing I need is the chance and I feel it is looming large. What I have to do though is to be patient and when my chance comes I have to grab it with both hands.

"I know myself that I will be utilised to the benefit of the team and if I perform better obviously, I will get more regular call-ups of which is my wish."
