One killed in Nigeria crash

A club official has been killed and several players seriously injured in a bus crash involving Nigeria Premier League club Zamfara United on Friday evening.

The team were on their way to honour a Premier League game against Wikki Tourists when their bus was involved in the fatal crash.

Tunji Babalola, the Nigeria Premier League's Head of Competitions told KickoffNigeria.com that Ado Umar, the club's curator, was killed.

"I can confirm to you that Ado Umar was killed in the accident and some of the players were seriously injured," Babalola told KickOffNigeria.com late on Friday.

It is the third fatality in as many months to afflict Nigerian football. Last December, nine women footballers were killed in a similar crash on their way back from a game, while 15 players of an amateur team, FC Jimeta from Adamawa State, perished when their bus was also involved in a crash.

Former national coach Christian Chukwu, also escaped unhurt from a car accident on his way back from a league game with his club Rangers International.

I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the management and players of Zamfara United. It's a terrible loss to the team and to Nigerian football community as a whole. I pray that the team will emulate the focus of Zambia, who lost a whole team but two, and rose to give Nigeria a tough time at the '94 Nations Cup final.

Kwabs, thanks for your condolences, but I hope you are not trying to be flippant with your comment. Even the best buses do crash. After all, the titanic did sink. It is an unfortunate incidence and we should not be glib about it.

These are sober moments. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased and the Zamfara FC.

Kwabs, if you delight and rejoice in calamities sincerely don't pray that it befalls you. Ghana is seen as an extension of Nigeria and I think you should see it as that.

am really sorry for the club that got involved in this terrific accident and I wish to extend my condolence to the family of the bereaved.

I think I still support kwabs on what his comment was, with egards to the state of vehicles used in conveying our footballers to and fro,"when it comes to inter-state journey".

The NFF should look into this matter and bring out the standard of any vehicle that will be used in conveying players for thei club assignment.

This is not to say that new vehicles dont develop faults or even get involved in accidents but the use of good vehicles reduces the risk of sucha thing happening, thereby reducing the risk of loosing God-given potentials and the lives of young men who will end up making some people to become widows, fatherless, sonless, brotherless etc.

God Bless 9ja

Thanks jay. I agree with you that it could be better. Just like our pitches, players welfare and other areas could be better. My beef was that our brother Kwabs' comments/suggestions were too lighthearted for the severity of the occassion. Kwabs, I appreciate you and I hope you won't feel hurt.

The much-expected sack of embattled Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso, may have finally come to pass with the disclosure that Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi will lead the Flying Eagles to to the World Youth Championship in Egypt.

According to SoccerStar’s impeccable source: "I can cnfirm to you that Ladan Bosso is gone and Dan Amokachi has been picked as his replacement. What is left is just for the NFF board to ratify the decision.

Bosso, has shown that he does not have te capacity to lead the Flying Eagles to the World Cup. The source further affirmed that "Since the NFF do not want to distract Amodu Shaibu’s World Cup preparations, the best thing is to appoint Amokachi to take charge of the team. It is however, unclear who will be named as Amockahi’s assistant.

The hypocrisy of people like Billion has been exposed. A couple of days ago, there was a stadium incident in Ghana which claimed four lives. Billion and some Nigerians came to kickoff Ghana, read that particular story and posted very, very nasty and outrageous comments about that particular incident. Now that it has happened in Nigeria, he is talking about sober moments. Folks, people like Billion are a disgrace to Nigerians. Every single comment I read from him, my respect for Nigerians diminishes. He comes to kickoff Ghana to post very stupid comments, just to provoke Ghanaians. I urge you all to call him to order or else don’t blame me if I decide to launch my own Operation Hurricane on kickoff Nigeria. I can see there a few descent Nigerians on this site. I urge you in the name of God to talk to your man Billion, otherwise don’t blame me when I start. He is free to come to kickoff Ghana and read and even post comments. But those comments should be devoid of cynicism, slandering or maligning the good people of Ghana. He does not have monopoly over insults. We love our country as much Nigerians love theirs.
Anyway sha as we come dey mourn for our departed Zamfara United official, I come dey hear say dem come massacre eight fans of 4 Ocean Boys. I no sure why kickoffNigeria neva publish am. My condolence to them as well as the those (Muslims and Christians) slaughtered in Bauchi on Saturday.Whick kain walahi bi dis? Chineke God sha go wipe una tears.Amen.

It is a pity that the dividends of corruption and mismanagement in Nigeria is been bored by the innocent and helpless citizens. 96% of the Nigeria major roads are dead traps. How many footballers have we lost this year due to road mishaps?!!! May the curse of all those in heavens be on those who have thrown our dear motherland into the state it is now. May God out of His endless mercies repose the souls of the dead!
