Xola Mlambo believes fortune will decide MTN8 final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits

Bidvest Wits midfielder Xola Mlambo is a firm believer that "anything is possible" ahead of their MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 25-year-old is set to feature in his first ever cup final, less than three months after joining The Clever Boys from Chippa United.

With Wits having started the season on a high, Mlambo has played an integral role in the heart of Gavin Hunt's midfield, alongside Thabang Monare.

Coming up against a Sundowns outfit that have also qualified for the coveted CAF Champions League final, he admits respect for the Brazilians but believes, ultimately, fortune will play a role in who comes out victorious on Saturday evening.

"[Sundowns] are a good side – one has to give credit where it's due – but in a game of football anything is possible," Mlambo told reporters earlier this week.

"You can either win by luck or by proper preparation but, whatever will happen [on Saturday], it will be the one who's mostly fortunate at the end of the day."

With both teams having shown form early on in the new domestic season, the former Cape Town All Stars hardman downplays the fact the Wits are the only team able to beat the Tshwane side.

"I definitely wouldn't think that [Wits are the only team able to beat Sundowns] but we'll take it as it comes, we'll see what happens at the end of the day," he added.

"They are the favourites of the [MTN8] cup, I mean, they have reached two finals in just a short period of time so they definitely are the favourites.

"Looking at how they have been playing and what they have achieved, it's definitely them on top of us on paper so we have to work twice as hard."

Kick-off of this weekend's only PSL fixture is scheduled for 17h00 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
