Cape Town City sign Thamsanqa Mkhize

Cape Town City have handed a lifeline to former Maritzburg United defender Thamsanqa Mkhize.

City, who overcame Cape Town rivals Ajax Cape Town in their first Cape Derby on Friday evening, today announced the signing of the 27-year-old on a free transfer.

Mkhize saw his contract with the Team of Choice run out at the end of last season and quickly joined Orlando Pirates in July.

However, the Mayfair-based club pulled the plug on the full-back after just two weeks, as new coach Muhsin Ertugral deemed him surplus to requirements.

Mkhize has since begun a new chapter in the Mother City as Eric Tinkler adds another option to his defensive department.
