Bidvest Wits CEO Jose Ferreira has revealed the reason behind striker James Keene's omission from the squad for the current season.
The PSL on Thursday released the official list of club registrations, with Keene a noticeable absentee from Gavin Hunt's 32-man squad.
Ferreira explains that the 30-year-old has been omitted due to his knee injury, which required surgery during the off-season.
"James is not registered with us for the new season as a result of his injury," Ferreira tells KickOff.com.
Hunt previously mentioned, prior to the start of the season, that Keene would likely only return to the fold in January next year, along with teenage starlet Phakamani Mahlambi.
However, the 19-year-old national under-23 asset has since been included on the club's roster for the first half of the season, suggesting that his return to action could come sooner than expected.
Keene scored on debut for The Clever Boys, against Chippa United, in January last season, and eventually managed eight goals in all competitions as the team finished in second place on the Absa Premiership standings.
