Man of the Match George Maluleka says Kaizer Chiefs took their chance and showed fighting spirit in the 1-0 victory over Highlands Park on Wednesday night.

Chiefs claimed three points courtesy of George Lebese's controversial 65th-minute penalty at Makhulong Stadium.

Referee Lwandile Mfiki awarded the spot-kick for a tug by Auguston Leonard on William Twala, but TV replays showed that the foul was committed outside the box and the players fell inside.

"I think the difference was the chance that we got, we managed to put it away," Maluleka told SuperSport when asked what helped Amakhosi get their first win of the season from four games in all competitions.

"It was a penalty but nonetheless we created it, and we fought together as a team. We fought together till the end."

The former Ajax Cape Town midfielder conceded the Glamour Boys have been under pressure to turn things around.

"I just want to thank the technical team and my teammates for supporting each other. You know it's been a very difficult stage for us. But getting back to the game, it was very important for us to make sure we stay compact at first, not to concede goals. We knew we would create a lot of chances at goal, and luckily we got one today."
