Wits join Bucs after edging Baroka

Posted: 20 September 2016 Time: 18:46

Bidvest Wits joined Orlando Pirates at the Absa Premiership summit after beating topflight newcomers Baroka FC 2-0 at New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Wits opened the scoring eight minutes in, as Thabang Monare pounced on the rebound after Eleazar Rodgers' penalty was saved by Oscarine Masuluke following a foul on the lanky striker in the box.

New signing Cuthbert Malajila doubled the advantage with his first goal for the club in stoppage time.

Masuluke made a number of stops in the first half, notably keeping out an effort out from Thulani Hlatshwayo, while he also did well to thwart a strike from ex-Pirates winger Sifiso Myeni after the break.

The Students are level with Bucs on seven points after three matches.

Muhsin Ertugral's charges were held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City in Soweto on Tuesday night.
