Orlando Pirates dropped their first points of the season after being held to a goalless draw by Cape Town City in Soweto on Tuesday night.
Pirates disappointed on home soil and were left sweating over the fitness of South Africa U-23 midfielder Gift Motupa, who suffered an injury eight minutes in at Orlando Stadium.
City offered more going forward but Brighton Mhlongo proved alert in the Buccaneers goal, notably foiling Aubrey Ngoma's deflected effort with a reaction stop in the latter stages of the tie.
At the other end, new Sea Robbers winger Riyaad Norodien drew a sharp save from Shu-Aib Walters just before the break.
Bucs remain top of the log, albeit level on seven points after three games with Bidvest Wits, who beat topflight newcomers Baroka FC 2-0 on the same evening.
