Tefu Mashamaite’s SuperSport United debut put on ice

Posted: 16 September 2016 Time: 08:59

It seems like SuperSport United fans will have to wait little longer before seeing new signing Tefu Mashamaite in action, with the defender set to go under the knife.

The former Kaizer Chiefs centre-back is still yet to officially kick a ball for United since joining from Swedish side BK Hacken on transfer deadline day.

'Masha' visited a surgeon this week, with indications that an operation is required on his troublesome knee.

"On my phone I have message from Masha,” United coach Stuart Baxter told reporters. "He met the surgeon, who wanted to discuss whether to operate on his knee or not.

"We need to speak about it because many times if you don't do anything it can be okay, but many times you can rest for a week and it will break down, rest another week and break down...and the season can disappear.

“We are going to talk what we going to do as strategy”, he added.

Baxter again lamented the number of early season injuries his depleted squad have suffered, with up to six players side-lined already.

"We have six players that will be out for at least for a month,” he said. “We’ve got Clayton Daniels, Grant Kekana, Masha, Fagrie Lakay, Keagan Ritchie and Cole Alexander all out, and might only come back after about a month.”

Matsatsantsa travel to Maritzburg United for their next Absa Premiership fixture on Wednesday.
