Bafana newcomer Aubrey Modiba switches attention to Egypt after AFCON qualifier with Mauritania

Posted: 3 September 2016 Time: 08:22

Bafana Bafana newcomer Aubrey Modiba insists the team can not afford to treat their clash with Egypt as a friendly with the 2018 World Cup qualifiers fast approaching.

Bafana will host the Pharaohs in the 22nd edition of the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Tuesday.

Shakes Mashaba's men will hope to impress after their failed 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign ended with a 1-1 draw against ten-man minnows Mauritania in Nelspruit last night.

Modiba, 21, said after the Group M tie: "I think this was a good start for us as youngsters to come in one by one. Personally I think I did well and I'm hoping to see more youngsters coming through in the next games.

"We can't take Tuesday's game as a friendly. We have to go there and work hard and prepare ourselves for the World Cup qualifer against Burkina Faso. I think we are one step closer to achieving that," concluded the midfielder, who recently joined SuperSport United from Cape Town City.
