National First Division side AmaZulu have bolstered their central defensive department by signing defender Vukile Mgqibisa on a free transfer.
Mgqibisa told KickOff.com earlier this month that he had parted ways with relegated side University of Pretoria, following an injury-ravaged season which kept him out of action with the Pretoria side from November last year.
Usuthu coach Joey Antipas selected Mgqibisa in his starting line-up in their first game of the season as Usuthu defeated Black Leopards 2-1 at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday.
The 28-year-old, who was faultless for Usuthu in defence along with new captain Tapelo Nyongo, has expressed his delight at signing with the Durban-based outfit after completing his debut unscathed.
"For me it is great that I have found a new home at AmaZulu, and also played football following nine months out with injury," Mgqibisa tells this website.
"You can see I was out for some time, but the first goal as a player is to play full 90 minutes and be on the winning side at the end of the day.
"I'm grateful to AmaZulu for giving me this chance. They didn't doubt me in the first place and I just want to thank them that they showed faith in me."
The 28-year only featured in the first three games of Tuks last season and says he is ready to give his best after an unforgettable 2015/16 campaign.
"Now I'm ready to go. You saw the confidence isn't there but it is still coming back slowly but surely," he added.
"Last season was a difficult one because I suffered a bad injury, but now I'm happy that I came back after undergoing rehab for nine months so I'm ready to compete."
Usuthu are currently also working on securing the paperwork for their two new foreign players – Gabon international Stevy Nzambe and Congolose striker Kule Mbombo. Both players are still back in their respective countries.
