Bidvest Wits to appeal Xola Mlambo red card

Posted: 27 August 2016 Time: 23:29

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is expecting to have midfielder Xola Mlambo's red card rescinded after he was wrongfully handed a second yellow card against Orlando Pirates.

The Clever Boys were 2-1 victors over a second Soweto giant within four days as they sent Pirates packing in their MTN8 quarter-final on Saturday night.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men at the death as Mlambo was shown a supposed second yellow card, however, referee Thando Ndzandzeka mistakenly gave him a first yellow earlier on and Hunt says the club will dispute the sanction.

“Obviously there's going to be an enquiry with Mlambo because the wrong player was booked,” said Hunt after the match.

“It wasn’t him in the first half so obviously there's a big enquiry – it was Ngele, who made the foul, that should have been booked and not Xola.

“There's got to be a review on that … there has to be!”
