Thembinkosi Lorch marked his Absa Premiership debut for Chippa United on Tuesday night with more than just two assists in an impressive first outing in the top flight – he also made a most unusual bathroom break.
The diminutive wide player, who set up both goals for Rhulani Manzini in the 2-1 win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, left the pitch in the first half for a short while after seeking permission from the referee.
“We actually had two players with running stomachs,” explained Dan Malesela, “but I refuse to believe it had anything to do with the food.
We all ate the same meal before the game. I think it was anxiety.”
Malesela said Chippa’s five debutants all felt the pressure of their first matches in the top flight.
New signings Zama Dlamini and Bernard Kama also played their first PSL games, while Sizwe Mdlinzo came on as a substitute.
