Platinum Stars striker Ndumiso Mabena is determined to build on a successful campaign that saw him named Dikwena's Player of the Season for 2015/16.
Apart from that accolade the 29-year-old also ended as the club's top scorer with an impressive ten league goals as Stars claimed a third place finish in the Absa Premiership.
Mabena has refused to set himself any personal targets and is focused instead on doing his job and helping the team as they compete on the domestic and continental front having qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
“Every time I am asked about a target I don’t say it. I just tell myself that I have to bury each and every chance that I get in order to get as many goals I can,” Mabena told the Platinum Stars' official website.
“I want to add value by helping the team to achieve one or two trophies and doing well in Africa. That will be a big reward for me.”
The Phokeng-based outfit get their new league campaign underway this evening against SuperSport United and Mabena says he and his teammates know what to expect from their opponents.
The former Orlando Pirates striker went on to urge supporters to turn up to the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace and support the team.
“We know SuperSport’s strengths and weaknesses. It won’t be an easy game for us or them. It’s the first game of the season and everybody will be looking to do well in their first game," said Mabena.
"We have to grind even if it comes to an extent that we play a scrappy match but getting the results will help us going forward in the season.
“I want to plead to the fans that they come to the stadium in numbers. It’s our first game and they know the role that they play. They must just come and support and we will give them positive results at the end of the day."
