Nigeria win Olympic bronze medal

Posted: 20 August 2016 Time: 19:57

The Nigeria Under-23 team won the bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games after beating Honduras Under-23s 3-2 in the third-place playoff.

Umar Sadiq gave the African nation the lead in the 34th minute, and it stayed 1-0 until half-time.

Then the Dream Team quickly went 3-0 up early in the second half as Aminu Umar struck in the 49th minute before Sadiq bagged his second in the 56th.

However, Anthony Lozano pulled a goal back for Honduras in the 71st minute to spark some hopes of a comeback, and then four minutes from time Marcelo Pereira made it 3-2 to set up an interesting finish.

But Nigeria held on comfortably enough to secure their country’s first medal of the Games.
