Orlando Pirates will not renew the contract of veteran defender Rooi Mahamutsa

Orlando Pirates have confirmed to KickOff.com that Rooi Mahamutsa is no longer with the club after his contract was not renewed upon its expiry.

Mahamutsa – who has done duty as a right-back and central defender – has only ever played for Pirates in the PSL since arriving from First Division club Witbank Spurs eight years ago.

Now a free agent just two months before his 35th birthday, the veteran defender will have to look elsewhere if he still harbours ambitions of continuing with his career.

Pirates official Floyd Mbele confirms to KickOff.com that Mahamutsa’s contract has not been renewed, finally providing clarity about his status.

“Contract expired and not renewed,” Mbele explains.

Mahamutsa was not a regular this past season but was always firm whenever called upon through the 217 games that he started for Pirates during his time with the club.

Pirates have restructured their central defence this season with Tshepo Gumede, Siyabonga Sangweni and Mahamutsa no longer at the club and Lucky Lekgwathi no longer a member of the playing squad.

The Bucs now have Ayanda Gcaba, Edwin Gyimah, Happy Jele, Justice Chabalala, Tercious Malepe, Gladwin Shitolo and Abbubaker Mobara as their options in central defence for this season.
