Abbubaker Mobara accepts Muhsin Ertugral's midfield deployment at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates newcomer Abbubaker Mobara does not expect any favours from Muhsin Ertugral and says he will play wherever the coach sees fit.

Ertugral, who promoted Mobara to the Ajax Cape Town first team in 2012/13, recently said he would deploy the 22-year-old in midfield alongside the likes of Oupa Manyisa.

Mobara featured in defence for South Africa at the Rio Olympics and for Ajax last term, but says he is not surprised by Ertugral's plans.

Mobara told Pirates' website: "I am not surprised at all because he was the one who promoted me to the first team and he has always maintained that he saw me as a defensive midfielder and nothing else. To me positions are not that important, the key thing is that I fight for a chance to play and when I get that opportunity I make sure that I deliver.

"Look, Muhsin is a good coach, he has his own style of football and is quite knowledgeable in the game. But it has been a while since I played under him so I will have to work just as hard as everyone else to get the playing patterns right, to be on par with the rest of the guys on the tactical and technical aspects that the coach wants. But I’m excited with what I have seen so far, everyone is working really hard here, the mood is great and the spirits are high which is why I am confident in us as a team."

Mobara linked up with his Bucs teammates on Monday, and is eager to get to business in the new season.

"Monday was my first time back and I am just so excited to be coming straight to Johannesburg and join my new team for the pre-season. The good thing is that I’m fit because I have been playing all along during the football break. So the only thing that’s left now is to gel with the team as quick as possible because it’s important if we want to be successful in the upcoming season."

He added: "As players we need to know each other individually, get used to each other and understand what it means to be part of the Orlando Pirates set up as well as understanding where I will play and what role the coach wants me to play. I think it’s important for us who are joining the team this week to work extra hard on catching up and gel with the rest of the team because that’s the whole point of pre-season."
