Kaizer Chiefs will need to act fast if they have any intention of signing Mamelodi Sundowns target Anele Ngcongca, who became a free agent on Tuesday.
As KickOff.com reported a few weeks ago, Sundowns are in the strongest position of any local clubs trying to land the signature of the Bafana Bafana defender as they are the only club to have made formal contact via his representatives.
Chiefs’ interest will be peaked now that the player is available, but as things stand Sundowns are the only realistic local option.
Amakhosi footballer manager Bobby Motaung played down the possibility of bringing in further reinforcements last week, despite the fresh presence of a Zimbabwean trialist at Naturena, although that was also prior to the news of Erick Mathoho's lengthy ankle injury.
“He has few options. Chiefs are also in the picture but Sundowns remain hot favourites with Pitso Mosimane taking it upon himself to try and lure Ngcongca to Sundowns,” says a source to the player.
“He is also considering a few options abroad and in the next few days Ngcongca will announce his next destination.”
Ngcongca’s agent Paschalis Tountouris from Prosport International announced on Twitter that his client has officially parted ways with the Belgian club.
