Kermit Erasmus makes substitute appearance as Rennes suffer opening defeat

Posted: 14 August 2016 Time: 20:12

South African striker Kermit Erasmus enjoyed a bittersweet evening, making his first appearance of the new Ligue 1 season in Rennes 1-0 defeat to Nice.

The Red and Blacks conceded in the 60th minute, with Malang Sarr netting for the home side, as they struggled to find the back of the net at the Allianz Riviera on Sunday evening.

Erasmus got the new campaign off with a substitute appearance in the 79th minute, but the former Orlando Pirates attacker couldn't inspire his teammates to come back from the 1-0 deficit.

The 26-year-old striker will be hoping to land a place in the starting line-up when Rennes next welcome Nancy to Roazhon Park on Saturday.
