Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has provided clarity on the progress of transfer-listed trio Siyanda Xulu, Edward Manqele and Siphelele Mthembu.
In a further development, Motaung says that being put up for sale has inspired the three to significantly change their attitudes.
The trio were part of a bevy of players deemed to be surplus to requirements but a marked improvement in their approach to training has seemingly provided them a lifeline at the club.
“We haven’t received any offers for them by they are obviously part of the squad like we said because they are contracted to the team and they are part of the team,” says Motaung.
Manqele and Mthembu had been linked with a possible move to Bloemfontein Celtic while Xulu’s representatives were said to be exploring overseas options but they all remain at Naturena despite their respective 'for sale' tags.
“Sometimes putting players on transfer, sometimes it shakes them up a bit because they understood what the reason was of putting them on transfer," continued Motaung.
"It was for them to get an opportunity to compete, to play but I think with the changes that have been made and now that they have another lifeline I think the attitude has been positive in camp and they are showing positive signs in terms of change of the attitude and the energy that they brought in. So I think they still have a lifeline to prove themselves.
“For us, it is to get these guys to play football, it is not about personal issues or anything but them coming into Chiefs wearing that jersey and competing. If we feel that a player is not giving us that much then obviously we put you on transfer just because we need you to go out there and compete as well or get another opportunity.
"We don’t want to keep players who are unhappy here or players that don’t have that edge because we want competition, we want players to come in and fight and compete.”
Chiefs are fully aware that transfer-listing a player is often just the motivation they need having done the same to Mandla Masango who then went on to have his best season and earn a move to Europe.
