South Africa U-23 assistant coach Thabo Senong and Tercious Malepe have linked up with the Olympic squad in Brazil and will soon be followed by Keagan Dolly, Lebo Mothiba, Erick Mathoho and Itumeleng Khune.

Senong, the national U-20 coach, and Malepe did duty in Amajita's 3-0 win over Lesotho in Bloemfontein this past weekend, which earned the nation a spot at the 2017 African Youth Championships in Zambia.

The pair have since arrived in Brasilia, with defender Malepe in good spirits.

“You know life is funny. Less than three months ago my team (Moroka Swallows) was relegated from the National First Division and a few days after that I was called up to the Amajita squad. Now I am capped at U-20, U-23 and Bafana Bafana level and find myself at the world’s biggest sporting event. We have also just qualified for the U-20 AFCON and I was part of the 2016 COSAFA Cup-winning squad in Namibia. That is just unbelievable,” said Malepe.

“There are no words to describe my feelings, I guess it is the power ofthe Lord Almighty. I am here to make my mark and build on the glory that has being bestowed upon me. I am also happy to see my other teammates and cannot wait to for the Games to begin.”

Dolly and Mothiba will join the squad on Thursday, while Kaizer Chiefs duo Mathoho and Khune will arrive on August 3.

Dolly will play for Mamelodi Sundowns against Zamalek in a CAF Champions League clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium tonight.

Mothiba is currently on a pre-season training camp with his French club Lille.

Mathoho and Khune will represent Amakhosi in the annual Carling Black Label Champion Cup against Orlando Pirates on Saturday at FNB Stadium.

Owen da Gama’s side will start their Olympic campaign against Brazil on August 4 at the Mane Garrincha Stadium.
