South African goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has played down a potential battle with Brazilian superstar Neymar, and insists it will be a team contest.
The South Africa under-23 Olympic team will face hosts Brazil in their opening clash at Rio 2016, potentially pitting Khune and Neymar against one another for a second time.
The last time the two players faced one another the Little Canary came out 1-0 victors thanks to Hulk's 74th minute goal, as the Bafana Bafana shotstopper thwarted the Barcelona forward until he was eventually substituted in the 89th minute.
However, Khune, who has been selected alongside Kaizer Chiefs teammate Eric Mathoho as one of two overaged players, says he has not considered the individual duel and insists his focus is on helping the team.
"No, it's not all about Neymar vs Khune; it's about South Africa vs Brazil, so I will go there, respect the opponents and perform for the team if I'm given the opportunity to start," said 'Itu'.
"If Jody [February] starts, he will do well too because he's a great goalkeeper with massive experience as well.
"He has played for the under-23s in the African Youth Championships and he's got many caps, so whoever playes between the two of us will definitely carry the hopes of the nation on his shoulders and perform."
