Henrico Botes talks up Platinum Stars new recruit Benson Shilongo

Posted: 21 July 2016 Time: 09:56

Veteran striker Henrico Botes feels fellow forward Benson Shilongo is definitely one to watch in the Absa Premiership this season.

Botes, who recently returned to his former club in Rustenburg, was full of praise for Shilongo, who Dikwena snapped up from Gaborone United earlier this month.

“Shilongo is a typical number nine and he is also a target man, but he is quite mobile,” Botes told his club’s official website. “He has got good feet, a good technique. He has an eye for goals and I am sure if he gets chance and gets used to the league, he will just grow from strength to strength.”

Botes feels his strike partner has what it takes to do the business in his first season in the PSL, and is more than willing to lend his compatriot a helping hand.

“It’s his first year in the PSL but I believe with me being here I am sure it will help him to settle quicker and find his feet,” he said. “He is a good player. If he gets a chance he will definitely prove that he is not an ordinary player. The first season in the PSL is not easy. The standard is quite higher than all the leagues in Africa. Hopefully I can assist him and all the young strikers as well.”

With Shilongo, Botes, Ndumiso Mabena, Bongi Ntuli and Thobani Kunene making up the Dikwena attack, Botes is confident his side’s strikeforce, with his mentorship, will be on song this campaign.

“There’s a couple of youngsters that if given an opportunity, with the right guidance, they would excel,” he said. “I am confident they would do well. Our job is to guide them. Together as a team we can achieve and I have no doubt.

"It’s about getting the right combinations and getting everything in place. We can surprise a lot of teams.”
