Banyana Banyana striker Noko Matlou made history last night when she became the first South African to win a major individual CAF award.
Matlou collected the CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year award in Lagos, Nigeria, beating off competition from Genevova Anonma (Equatorial Guinea) and Ngo Ndoumbouk Marlyse (Cameroon).
Matlou was a star at the 2008 African Women’s Championship, where she finished joint top-scorer with Anonma with six goals.
The 23-year-old plays for Limpopo side Brazilians and has scored 23 goals in 20 games for the national side.
