Nigerian defender James Okwuosa has put Orlando Pirates in his past and is grateful to be warmly welcomed back to Chippa United.

The 25-year-old centre-back has returned to The Chilli Boys on a three-year deal despite signing a pre-contract with Pirates just six months ago, with reports suggested that the former Ajax Cape Town hardman's move was a 'done deal'

However, Okwuosa has since praised club boss Chippa Mpengesi, describing him as "a true leader", while expressing thanks for his welcomed return.

"I am grateful for the warm welcome I received from the coach, technical team and players.  Everybody, including management and staff has been good to me," Okwuosa told his club's website.

"I consider the Chairman as family. We are like brothers now. He is a true leader and I thank him for supporting me all the way."

The Chippa captain also adds that he is happy to be back training with his teammates, and sets his sights on an improved season from their previous campaign.

"It feels good to be back here training with the boys,” he added. "I always set myself goals as a footballer and believe that as a group we can create something special this season.

"Last season was great, but this season we will do even better. We must remain focused and work hard, beacuse it will not be easy.

"The supporters were big part of what we achieved last season and we have to pay them back by making them proud on the field of play."
