Orlando Pirates are keen on bringing Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe to the club

Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has become the subject of interest for a possible transfer to Orlando Pirates in a move that will ultimately be determined by other player movements at The Clever Boys.

Wits have had enquiries about Shongwe but nothing solid as yet with the club only willing to agree to a transfer that also suits their interests of maintaining balance in their squad.

‘Jafefe’ as Shongwe is known has already back in pre-season training with the rest of his teammates who started training on Monday.

The 26-year-old has already spent two-and-a-half years enjoying his football at Wits after arriving from Mamelodi Sundowns where regular game-time had become scarce.

Information reaching KickOff.com is that there have been talks about a potential move following interest from Pirates but nothing tangible has materialised as yet.

Shongwe’s handler is known to have a good relationship with Pirates where he has already placed one of the other clients that he represents.

Mention has already been made about a possible player exchange that will have Bucs’ out-of-favour midfielder Thandani Ntshumayelo moving in the opposite direction but Wits have other options to fill up that central midfield position so they are not desperate for the former SuperSport United man.

The Shongwe move is also hanging on which players Wits could ultimately end up getting in the much-hyped transfer of Sibusiso Vilakazi to Sundowns which will involve a player exchange if it happens.

Wits are keen to retain balance in their squad and will not just be bullied into releasing players to any of the 'Big Three' as they also have title ambitions of their own.
