Geofrey Massa gives Baroka FC first option to sign him

Posted: 6 July 2016 Time: 21:17

Newly promoted Baroka FC CEO Morgan Mamilla has revealed his club’s interest in signing Ugandan international Geoffrey Massa.

This website reported a few weeks ago that the striker is not in Bloemfontein Celtic’s plans for next season, but they would need to pay him out if he is to leave.

Baroka official Mamilla has previously stated that his club is not planning to sign any PSL players or rejects, but admits he would make an exception for the former University of Pretoria hitman.

“We don’t want players that were released by their teams, in fact I don't want any PSL player, the only PSL player I'm looking to sign is Geoffrey Massa,” Mamilla tells KickOff.com.

“Bringing him here won't be easy but don't rule it out yet, it might still happen,” he adds.

According to Mamilla, the Limpopo side have been trying to sign Massa since last season while they were still campaigning in the NFD.

“I have been talking to him since last year actually. The reason he didn't have a good season at Celtic is because he didn't play much last season. He only played eight games [seven league starts, five subs] and scored two goals,” Mamilla adds.

“He is currently back in the country, we are only waiting for him to sort out his financial issues with Celtic then we will sign him. He has personally agreed to give us a first option to sign him.”

Massa is a threat from direct set-pieces with good strength, decent pace and shows a good understanding with attacking players around him, and would offset the departure of Thabiso Kutumela to Orlando Pirates.
