John Comitis explains why Collins Mbesuma was not retained

Cape Town City FC owner John Comitis says Collins Mbesuma’s exit from his club was not his decision.
The Zambian topped the PSL scoring charts last season, yet was not retained by AmaZayoni, who are now under the ownership of Comitis, who relocated the club to the Mother City as Cape Town City FC.
When asked why the club’s leading goalscorer was let go, Comitis explained that it was not his decision to make.
“I inherited a club that had existing contracts,” he told KickOff.com. “All the contracts that were existing in this current season – all those players are here. All those contracts have been respected by ourselves as of 1 June.
“Players that are not here either had an end to their contract or there had to be a renewal of the option to their contract, and that decision was made by the previous owners.”
Regarding earlier speculation about players bonuses from last season still outstanding, Comitis confirmed that the club’s previous owners have dealt with the situation.
“Those matters have been dealt with internally with the previous owners and they have not negated any of their responsibilities,” he said. “In fact I have written confirmation that all these outstanding payments that they have to the players will be respected and honoured.”
Cape Town City began preseason training on Monday under the guidance of new club coach Eric Tinkler.
