Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Lyle Lakay is excited about the prospect of linking up with his former coach Gavin Hunt at Bidvest Wits.
The Clever Boys are apparently eager to acquire the services of the 25-year-old, despite him having two years remaining on his contract in the Free State.
Lakay worked with Hunt at SuperSport United and would jump at the chance to do so again.
“What I can say is that coach Hunt is very experienced and it would be nice working with him again,” Lakay tells KickOff.com.
“This is not to say that I’m not enjoying my time at Celtic, I do, but Hunt is a very ambitious and successful coach. He sets high standards and the prospect of working with him again makes me very excited.
“So I'm very happy about the interest that Wits and the coach is showing in me, but I have to sit down with my agent and decide the way forward.”
Lakay feels a move to Wits could also boost his chances of gaining more experience at international level, having won two caps so far.
“They [Wits] just missed out on the league for the first time. It’s all Hunt’s hard work that he has done. He built a team to make Wits a formidable outfit.
“In the past they were there and there about, but look what Hunt has done. The coach has positive influences on clubs wherever he goes. If I should move to Wits he will definitely bring the best out of me.
“Hopefully I can earn more Bafana caps as well. The last time I played for my country was in October last year during the Chan tournament, and I even scored a goal.
“I crave for that feeling again – to represent South Africa is what I’m striving for.”
