Highlands Park in for Morgan Gould, Katlego Mashego

Posted: 21 June 2016 Time: 11:26

KickOff.com has discovered that newly promoted Highlands Park have identified Morgan Gould and Katlego Mashego as their potential marquee signings for next season.

Gould’s contract at Kaizer Chiefs runs up at the end of the month and will not be renewed just like Mashego whose deal at Mamelodi Sundowns is also expiring next week.

Highlands are definitely in need of reinforcements to their relatively lightweight squad and have already started the process of trimming down the list of players that are available to them next season.

Gould’s name appears in bold letters on that list while Mashego’s deal could be just as good as done with his case made easy by the fact that he is known very well by Highlands Park director Larry Brookstone, who was also a director at HP Silver Stars when Mashego scored nine goals in 29 starts for the club.

Brookstone is the man who broke away from Platinum Stars in 2008 when HP Silver Stars was bought out by Royal Bafokeng and purchased the status of a second division team to form Highlands Park again.

Word reaching KickOff.com is that Highlands’ pursuit for these two experienced players will be made easier by the fact that they are a Gauteng-based club, the same province where the two players are already residing.

However, finances will also play a role in determining if Gould (33) and Mashego (34) do eventually end up signing for Highlands.

The duo were not regulars at their respective clubs this past season.

An option of heading out to the Indian Super League has also been mentioned for Gould but that would only be a short-term deal as that mini-league only runs for three months.
