Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Jody February has welcomed the inclusion of SuperSport United counterpart Reyaad Pieterse to the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming COSAFA Cup.
February has been a regular feature in Owen da Gama's setup having been an important figure at last year's African Youth Championships, where he helped the national Under-23 side qualify for the Olympic Games in August.
The Ajax shot-stopper believes the knowledge brought into camp by Pieterse will benefit himself as well as the team, and says he will not feel bad that someone older and more experienced has joined the squad.
"I think Reyaad is an amazing guy; he's come into the team as one of the older guys but he's always helping [Nkosigiphile] Gumede and I, who are younger than him," the 20-year-old tells KickOff.com.
"He's an asset to the team... I'm not looking down or feeling sad that he's coming into the team because he's helping me and my game, and where I can I will help him too, so it benefits both of us."
The 24-year-old Pieterse, who is set to make his international debut at the COSAFA Cup in Namibia, has also been tipped as one of the three over-aged players to make the 18-man squad for the Olympics.
Nonetheless, February accepts that competition is part of football and says his primary focus is just to be part of the travelling squad to Rio at the end of next month.
"Ja, for me it is obviously quite tough to grasp but that's football and I have to deal with it," he adds. "For me my focus is just to do my best and try to make the final squad for the Olympics.
"Whoever else makes it, I think, deserves it because everyone will be going on merit. I just need to show coach Owen that I am hungry and I've forgotten about my past success, and I'm willing to work in order to get into the team."
Bafana are set to leave for Windhoek on Wednesday ahead of their quarterfinal clash with the winners of Group B on Saturday.
