Highlands Park goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini targets Tuks shutout in Promotion Play-Offs

Highlands Park goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini is determined to help the team build on their strong start in the Promotion Play-Offs by collecting more clean sheets.

Highlands have the early lead on the three-team standings after walloping Mbombela United 3-0 at KaNyamazane last month, and will next host winless University of Pretoria at Makhulong Stadium on Saturday.

With 17 clean sheets in 29 appearances Kapini has been the principal factor behind Highlands conceding just 18 goals all season to finish second behind league winners Baroka FC.

“We need to build from what we already have and stay in control of our ability to avoid conceding,” Kapini tells

“We are going into game already having the advantage of having won away so we just need to make sure that we do the same at home. Our proud home record is something that we also need to build on going into this match against a team that we know will be desperate for a win. They lost their first game so they will be desperate to avoid losing again which will make it an enjoyable game as they will come to play in the same way that we also play when we are at home. The coach has already been telling us about the need to be patient in waiting for our chances which is something that we will do.

“We definitely need to win this game because once that is done then the next game that we play in midweek at home against Mbombela will be a decider for us in our bid to win promotion to the PSL. I will also want to personally keep on increasing the number of clean sheets that I have kept for this season,” says Kapini.
