Mamelodi Sundowns moved up to fifth on the Absa Premiership log table when they defeated Maritzburg United 3-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Brazilians' Surprise Moriri netted a hat-trick that handed them the comprehensive win despite having Vuyo Mere sent off in the first half.
Moriri opened the scoring in the eighth minute from the penalty spot, this after Kurt Lentjies had been brought down by Tshepo Mashishi in the 18-yard area.
On 36 minutes Downs were reduced to 10 men when Mere was dismissed for a professional foul on Justice Sithole.
However, Moriri scored his second eight minutes into the second half, again from the penalty spot, after Lentjies was foulded by John Arwuah.
The goal was a bitter blow for the Team of Choice, who had just begun to take a stranglehold of the game thanks to their numerical superiority.
The home team didn't allow their heads to drop, but the points were assured for the Brazilians in the 77th minute when Moriri finished off a cross from Lentjies to make get his hat-trick and the final goal of the game.
