Bafana Bafana defender Tebogo Langerman is looking to grab the opportunity afforded to him following Thabo Matlaba's withdrawal from the squad.
Coach Shakes Mashaba has named his starting iine-up for this evening's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia, with Langerman coming in at left-back ahead of Sifiso Hlanti.
“Thabo has some family matters to attend to so we have decided to excuse him and we will see him when we come back," announced Mashaba earlier this week.
Langerman has since rued the absence of his Orlando Pirates counterpart but promises to give his best in order to make the country proud.
"I did't expect Thabo to drop out so I will try my best to give 100 percent and, if given a chance, I will definitely do my best to make the country proud," he tells KickOff.com.
The 30-year-old adds that he will not try to emulate Matlaba's efforts but rather focus on helping the team succeed on the day.
"Matlaba is one of our best left-backs and, for me, I'm not competing with him. I just want to do the job for the national team."
Kick-off of the clash at the Independence Stadium in Bakau is scheduled for 19h00 (SA time) this evening.
