Tefu Mashamaite is set to resume training with Swedish side Hacken when they return from a mini-break for the 2016 European Championships.
The former Kaizer Chiefs star started his career in Europe in excellent form with Hacken, before a muscle injury picked up in March has left him on the sidelines.
He missed his club’s Swedish Cup final win last month that sees them enter the UEFA Europa League in the 2016/17 campaign, by which time Mashamaite hopes to be back.
He should resume training on June 20 when his teammates return from their break, with the second round of the Europa League, where Hacken enter the competition, set for July 14.
Whether he will be thrust straight back into the fold when he returns remains to be seen, but his coach Peter Gerhardsson admits he has been missed.
Mashamaite was the South African Footballer of the Season when he left Chiefs in June last year and given their problems at centre-back last season, it could be argued they should have done more to keep him.
When fit he has been a regular for Hacken since joining last September.
