SuperSport United midfielder Michael Morton praised the team’s fighting spirit after winning man of the match in the Nedbank Cup final win over Orlando Pirates.
Goals from Jeremy Brockie, Bradley Grobler and Michael Boxall gave Stuart Baxter’s side the victory. Clayton Daniels put through his own goal and Luvuyo Memela netted for Pirates.
Morton was delighted with the work ethic of all his teammates despite being singled out as the outstanding player.
“This team, every single time we’ve gone down in this tournament we just seem to come back, I think we went behind in every single round almost, but we just seem to find a way back, incredible team spirit again,” Morton told SuperSport.
“Second half was just chasing the game, trying to just keep the ball out of the net to be honest. We didn't really have much of the game in the second half but that’s character, the boys just held on for everything and we got the winner so extremely happy.”
The hard-working midfielder revealed that his beard was a bit of a good-luck charm for his side.
“I told my wife I would shave if we lose a game. It looks like it’s going to be a long off-season with this thing. My wife’s not very happy, but what can you do?”
