Dove Wome insists both SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates are under pressure to deliver the goods in today’s Nedbank Cup Final.
The match gives both clubs a shot at redemption after a rather disappointing season, and winning the lucrative cup competition will go a long way to appeasing fans from both camps.
“It’s a cup final … it’s not like you have to play for a draw. You have to throw everything at it and hope that everything goes well,” Wome says.
“It will be the first time I play in the Nedbank Cup final and I want to win it, so it will be a big game and the mood is good and I think every player is ready for the big challenge.”
Matsatsantsa secured a top 8 finish in the League, but their struggles throughout the season culminated in Gordon Igesund being shown the door, with Stuart Baxter coming in to steady the ship in January.
However, Bucs coach Eric Tinkler and his troops will be under more pressure from their hard-to-please legions of fans, who will demand nothing less than a win at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“You can’t say the pressure is on Pirates alone; the pressure is on us too,” Wome adds.
“At the start of the season we were supposed to be there challenging for the League as well and we never did that. This is our only chance to bring something to the club, so the pressure is on both teams and not just Pirates.”
