SuperSport United attacker Dove Wome and Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola have both voted for Hlompho Kekana to win the PSL Player's Player of the Season award ahead of Keagan Dolly and Khama Billiat.
Although many have tipped Billiat to claim the coveted accolade after finishing the season as Sundowns' leading goalscorer with 12 league goals, Wome and Makola say Kekana has their vote.
“Khama is a good player, he has done well this season," said Wome. “But, if you look at their team, I think the most consistent player who makes things happen for them I think it's Hlompho Kekana. I voted especially for him.”
Kekana chipped in with five league goals as The Brazilians claimed their second Absa Premiership title in three years, and Makola echoed Wome's sentiments.
“A lot of players at Sundowns did well but my vote went to Hlompho Kekana,” Makola said during a press conference on Wednesday.
“I think he has been a marvel to watch. He has done a lot of work for Sundowns in terms of their shape from build-up play to scoring goals. He did everything defensively and attacking-wise he has been phenomenal.
“There are things that I look up to him for which he can and I can't do but I look at what he does and learn from him. I learn a lot from quality players.”
The PSL Awards will take place at the Emperor’s Palace on May 30.
