Thabo Matlaba happy after Orlando Pirates secure top eight birth

Orlando Pirates captain Thabo Matlaba was relieved that his team could secure a place in the Absa Premiership top eight despite not finishing the season with a win.

Despite not managing a victory, Pirates maintained their status in the top eight after a hard fought 2-2 draw at the Orlando Stadium in their final league match of the season.

Matlaba admitted that it was not the desired outcome but expressed relief at holding on to seventh place and qualifying for next season's MTN 8.

"Yes, job done. We wanted to win this game so that we can stay in the top eight," Matlaba told SuperSport after the match.

"Even though the draw was okay, we wanted to win it so that we can get a confidence booster going into next week's [Nedbank Cup final] game."

The Bafana Bafana left back added that the match was a taster ahead of next weekend's final, and believes Stuart Baxter's troops will put out a good battle.

"You saw [today], SuperSport can compete; they did very well to come from behind and score those two goals," he added.

"We need to [learnt to] concerntrate and focus until the final whistle [when we play against them next weekend]. They are a good team and they played very well."

The two sides meet at the Peter Mokaba Stadium next week Saturday for the final match of the 2015/16 PSL season. Kick-off is set for 3pm.
