Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler says Ayanda Gcaba has been a stalwart in the centre of defence for the Buccaneers.

Gcaba has made 21 starts in the Absa Premiership this season, but will miss Saturday's opening salvo with SuperSport United through suspension along with striker Thamsanqa Gabuza.

Bucs will battle their top-eight rivals in their last league game of 2015/16 at Orlando Stadium tomorrow before reviving hostilities in the Nedbank Cup final at Peter Mokaba Stadium on May 28.

“Ayanda Gcaba has been a stalwart in the center of our defense and with him being suspended someone else will have to come in and do the job the job for us,” Tinkler told the club's website.

Meanwhile, Tinkler was pleased to see under-fire striker Gabuza score against Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, but was less impressed with his goal celebration which yielded a booking and subsequent one-match ban.

“Gabuza came in and scored which was great for the team as well as his confidence, but he went on to concede a yellow card for a silly celebration and now he is suspended going into this important match against SuperSport.”

Gabuza has apologised for his actions, deemed to have incited the crowd at Goble Park by referee Philip Tinyane.
