Platinum Stars goalkeeper coach Stephane Ekakala has been discharged from hospital after being involved in a car crash with Ndumiso Mabena and Mbongeni Mzimela in Phokeng on Saturday night.
The accident happened near the club’s Royal Bafokeng Sports Campus base, with Mabena and Mzimela lucky to escape injury after both players' cars were written off.
Ekakala was taken to hospital but is on the mend, according to Stars head coach Cavin Johnson.
"I believe he is recovering well and is out of hospital. I am going to see him now." Johnson tells KickOff.com.
The players were driving in convoy after returning from their 1-1 away draw with Free State on Saturday afternoon.
The incident brought back unhappy memories for the Stars players. Earlier this season defender Thabiso Semenya lost his wife Thandeka in a car accident as he drove to the club’s home match against Kaizer Chiefs in March.
The Premier Soccer League has already endured tragedy on South Africa's roads this season - Ajax Cape Town defender Cecil Lolo was killed in a car accident in October, while Maritzburg United's Mondli Cele died in January.
