Stuart Baxter says SuperSport United would be interested in signing Reyaad Pieterse after confirmation that he would be leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Amakhosi in 2013 from Irish side Shamrock Rovers when Baxter was in charge, turned down the club’s offer of a new deal in search of more regular game-time.
Now Baxter, who left Chiefs at the end of last season for a very brief spell in Turkey, says they would definitely be interested in Pieterse – or any other player – that becomes available.
“Reyaad has declared that he doesn’t want to stay? We would be interested in him and if ‘Yeye’ [Reneilwe Letsholonyane] says the same we will be interested, and (Wiilard) Katsande says the same we will be interested,” he says.
“We will be interested in good players, but I will not be alone, I’m telling you. [But] I cannot come and destabilise players at Chiefs because they are biggest club in the country and if the player is happy at Chiefs he wouldn’t come to SuperSport … that is football.”
Former Nike Chance Academy graduate Pieterse, who was sporadically part of Baxter’s triumphs at Chiefs, has 18 starts so far this season.
