Slovan Bratislava stumble in Slovak Cup final

Posted: 30 April 2016 Time: 09:22

South African midfielder Granwald Scott narrowly missed out on his first winners medal in Slovakian football after his side Slovan Bratislava lost in the Slovak Cup final.

Slovan were defeated 3-1 by defending champions as well as recently crowned Super Liga champions Trencin in the final on Friday evening.

The home side opened the scoring in the 53rd minute but were unable to contain the pressure applied by the visitors, as they crumbled in the final 12 minutes of the match.

Trencin equalised in the 78th minute and quickly grabbed the lead six minutes later, before they put the tie to bed in the 90th minute.

Scott was unable to help his side over the final hurdle, as he put in a hard shift through the 90 minutes, before being substitued in referee's additional time.

Despite the league title already having been wrapped up by Trencin, Slovan will resume their campaign on Monday evening against MSK Zilinia.

The former Ajax Cape Town has now made eight starts and five substitute appearances in his maiden Slovak season, after joining in January.
